TOKYO, JAPAN-Ex-OPBF super-feather champ KENGO NAGASHIMA, 128, showed
his speed and strength in lopsidedly battering a game Indonesian FRANGKY
MAMUAYA, 126, en route to a fine KO win at 0:35 of the 5th round.
The taller lefty, Nagashima, scored fast and effective combinations and had him on the defensive. The Japanese floored the Indonesian with a wicked shot to the side of the belly in the closing seconds of the third.
The fatal 4th saw Nagashima swarm over him with a same body shot followed by a one-two combo and sink him in the corner for the count. Mamuaya, who had made losing efforts against ex-WBA champ Jesus Salud and ex-OPBF champ Reynante Jamili, fought well but proved no match for the faster lefty.
Nagashima, the son of the promoter and ex-boxer Kiyoshi Nagashima, renounced his OPBF 130-pound title in order to attempt to move down in the 126-pound division. His target will be the WBA champ Freddie Norwood, the winner of the upcoming WBC elimination bout of Luisito Espinosa and Guty Espadas Jr. or the WBA super-feather ruler Jongkwon Baek-according to his father.
Nagashima, ex-national high school champ, raised his mark to 16-1-1, 9 KOs. Mamuaya fell to 20-9-1, 10 KOs.
Fast-rising TAKESHI WADA, 122, swept all rounds and displayed his power punching to score a onesided decision over TAKA BANDO, 121 1/2, over 8.
Wada, now 10-1, 9 KOs, experienced his first win on points, but his talent was appreciated by the crowd. This boy may zoom up in the nearest future. Bando impaired to 7-8-2, 6 KOs.
Promoter: Kiyoshi Nagashima's 18 Koga Promotions.
Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.
