TOKYO, JAPAN-Unbeaten Filipino sensation RANDY SUICO(right photo), 131, decked his
debut in Tokyo as he sent Mexican ISRAEL MELENDEZ, 131, sprawling to the
deck in the 6th and pounded out a unanimous decision over 10.
Scored: double 98-94 and 98-93, all for Suico, now 10-0, 8 KOs.
Suico, nicknamed "Komong Bato (Hands of Stone)" in his native Cebu, was expected to display his highly-ballyhooed power, but he sustained an injured left hand when he hit the skull of the onrushing Mexican in the opening session and failed to show his lethal left hook. The much taller 20-yer-old Filipino, however, unleashed a well-timed left-right combination and floored him to the deck in the 6th.
Japan's #4 ranked super-bantam JUNICHI WATANABE, 124 3/4, dropped KIYOSHI WATANABE, 124 3/4, three times to score an automatic KO win at 2:16 of the opening session.
Japan's #2 ranked flyweight SHIRO YAHIRO, 113, earned a close but unanimous decision over Thailand's DAOJARASNOY PITAK, 111 3/4, over 10.
