WBA #4 RANKED FLY PHANIENG STOPS SHINOZAKI IN 7

May 20, 2000
TOKYO, JAPAN- WBA No.4 ranked flyweight PHANIENG "OKUDA" SASIPRABHA,(right photo) 112, an imported Thailander living in Japan, proved too sharp and strong for HIROKI SHINOZAKI, 111 3/4, Japan's No.2 ranked fly, stopping him at 0:40 in the 7th round at the Korakuen Hall.

It's a nearly lopsided affair with Phanieng battering him effectively and dropping him in the 6th. Referee Abe intervened when Phanieng made him helpless with a fusillade of punches in the next session.

Phanieng, the younger brother of ex-WBC super-fly champ Payao Poontharat, raised his mark to 26-0, 11 KOs. Shinozaki dropped to 17-4-1, 5 KOs.

Undercard:

Upcoming JBC No.2 ranked minimum SATOSHI KOGUMAZAKA, 103 1/4, surprisingly dropped a split decision to JBC No.8 ranked HIROYUKI ABE(left photo), 105, over 10.

Kogumazaka, a southpaw who had decked a couple of wins in as many bouts in Korea, was expected to beat Abe with ease, but he failed to catch the durable foe, missing plenty of roundhouse shots.

Scored: 96-95 and 97-96 for Abe, and 97-96 for Kogumazaka, 12-5-3, 7 KOs. Abe bettered his mark to 8-4, 3 KOs.

Previously unbeaten JBC No.9 ranked MAKOTO MIYAGI, 105, lost a unanimous nod to unranked HIROSHI KASAMATSU, 104, over 8. Miyagi fell to 7-1, 2 KOs. Kasamatsu upped his ledger to 7-3, 1 KO.

Promoter: Kadoebi Jewel Promotions.
