TAKECHI UPSETS KOREAN SONG TO WREST OPBF SUPER-WELTER TITLE

SAKAIDE, JAPAN-Unheralded Japanese Seiji Takechi, 159 1/4, wrested the OPBF super-welter belt as he was awarded a technical decision over WBC #12 ranked Korean Kukyul Song, 159, after the 10th in a scheduled 12 rounder as the Japanese was declared unfit to continue due to a gash caused by an accidental butt.

Itfs really an upset result. Takechi concentrated on attacking Songfs midsection to maintain the initiative as Song didnft look so sharp as previously only to occasionally counter him less accurately.

Scored: referee Sungkoo Kang (Korea) 99-95 for Song, but Ichiro Uenaka (Japan) and Takeo Harada (Japan) 98-96 and 97-95 respectively both for Takechi, a busy lefty, 10-2-1, 2 KOs. Song fell to 20-4-1, 15 KOs.
