EX-JAPANESE SUPER-LIGHT CHAMP ARAI WINS

August 3, 2000
OSAKA, JAPAN-Lefty ex-Japanese super-light champ Hisao Arai, 136, decked his comeback win after his unsuccessful crack at the OPBF belt via TKO defeat by the then champ Chongkil Kim last year, and outscored Makoto Sugino, 134, over 10.

Arai, 21-5-3, 15 KOs, proved too much for the less experienced Sugino, 9-8, 6 KOs.

Undercard:

SUGAMA STOPS RYUKI IN RIVAL MATCH IN OSAKA

July 10, 2000
OSAKA, JAPAN-Upcoming Japan's No.4 ranked feather prospect EIICHI SUGAMA, 125 3/4, ran his good mark to 18-1, 15 KOs as he impressively caught taller lefty Kenji Ryuki, Japan's #3 ranked super-feather, 125 1/4, and stopped him at 2:04 of the 5th round.

The loser Ryuki previously faced Filipino lefty Tiger Ari in a quest for the vacant OPBF super-feather crown only to be pulverized in the third last November. But the lanky southpaw couldn't deck his comeback, being overpowered by the fast-rising hard-puncher. Ryuki, ex-amateur speedster, is 8-2, 5 KOs.

The reason why Sugama is only ranked #4 in the domestic ratings is that, in Japan, the 126-pound division is full of strong young boys, and Sugama, one of the brightest prospects in Osaka along with his stablemate and Japanese bantam champ Nobuaki Naka, is obliged to wait for his turn to get a title shot at the Japanese throne.

Undercard:

Japan's #4 ranked super-welter Takenori Sakaguchi, 157 1/4, outscored Hideki Morishita, Japan's #8 super-welter, over 10. Sakaguchi improved his ledger to 12-1, 2 KOs, and Morishita, ex-amateur boy, tasted his first setback and dropped to 3-1-1, 2 KOs.

Promoter: Osaka Teiken Promotions.
