JAPANfS #3 RANKED FLY ASAI STOPS MURAMATSU

ASAI August 13, 2000
NAGOYA, JAPAN-Hard-punching flyweight Hayato Asai(right photo), 113, paved a way to have a shot at the national title when he chalked up a TKO win over #4 ranked Ryuji Muramatsu, 113, at 0:55 into the 5th round.

The previously WBC-ranked Asai, 14-2-2, 11 KOs, had failed to wrest the Japanese belt via bad KO defeat by Celes Kobayashi, being flattened in Tokyo on April 2. In his comeback go, Asai defeated the game opponent Muramatsu, 20-7, 8 KOs.

The current national champ Kobayashi refused to renounce his belt upon his crack at the WBC fly kingpin Malcolm Tunacao on this coming August 20, although it is very usual that a national ruler relinquishes his title prior to his shot at the world title. So, the top fly contenders-#1 Shiro Yahiro, #2 Masaki Kawabata, #3 Asai and #4 Muramatsu-wish the national throne to be vacant on Kobayashifs world coronation.
