KOCHI, JAPAN-Unbeaten Eugenio Gomez(right photo), a New Yorker married with a Japanese girl and living here, 124 3/4, broke the Japanese record of most consecutive first-round knockouts when he blasted out Filipino super-bantam champ Dino Olivetti, 125, at 1:58 of the opening canto and registered 7 KO wins in a row-all in the first three minutes-in a scheduled 10.
Eugenio, of Puerto Rican blood, reportedly won the US national power-lifting tourney. This muscular hard-puncher, born in New York on June 11, 1972, came down to Japan to get married with Kazue and started his professional career here.
Eugenio, fighting under the Japanese ring name Yuji Gomez, produced a sensation by scoring a string of KO wins-all in early rounds. He lately sunk six opponents in the opening canto in a row, but people thought that the Filipino champ might be too tough for him to demolish in 3 minutes, as previously, but he made a short work as usual.
The 28-year-old Gomez, now 11-0, 10 KOs, dropped Olivetti at first with a solid left hook, and sank him in agony again for the count.
