BANGKOK, THAILAND-The most influential promoter in Thailand, Sahasombhop Srisomvongse, passed away this morining (Dec. 28) because of heart attack. He was sleeping in bed at home and didnft wake up. He was reportedly 62.
Sahasombhop (usually, the first name is called in Thailand) was not only a powerful promoter but also the president of Asian Boxing Council (ABC) in South-east Asia that affiliates with the WBC. As the window of the WBC in Thailand for last 20 years, the formerly highly-ranked military person produced many WBC champions such as Payao Poontharat, Sot Chitalada, Samart Payakaroon, Napa Kiatwanchai, Saman Sorjaturong, Sirimongkol Singmanassak and the current WBC bantam champ Veeraphol Nakornluang-Promotion-to his credit.
He was such a likable gentleman that all friends and acquaintances greatly loved him. The Asian boxing world as well as the WBC has missed the great Thai promoter. We sincerely mourn his sudden death with our deepest condolence.
