TAKASAGO, JAPAN-Unbeaten simon-pure Ryuichi Minoriyama, 117 1/2, surprisingly defeated Filipino super-fly champ Joel Avila, 117 3/4, by a unanimous decision over 8.

Socred: 79-76, 78-74 and 79-75, all for Minoriyama, 7-0-1, 3 KOs, the promoterfs son who had just won the national final of the Novice King tournaments last December.

Undercard:

Akira Ebisuoka, 124, eked out a split decision over Filipino Reglo Mangubat, GAB #7 super-fly, 123, over 8.

Filipino sensation Rodel Mayol, who had won the national amateur championship in 5 consecutive years prior to his entry into the paid ranks, fought abroad for the first time, and made it 5-0, 4 KOs by winning a shutout decision over Ken Nakajima in a light fly 6.

NAGOYA, JAPAN-Japanese #7 welter Hiroshi Watanabe(right photo), 147 1/2, caught Thai veteran campaigner Nopparatnoy Vor Varaphon, 147, with a flurry of punches and finished him at 2:23 of the second round in a scheduled 10.

Watanabe, 12-2-1, 9 KOs, is willing to have a title shot at the OPBF title against the newly crowned Filipino Rev Santillan in the nearest future, since all his compatriots ranked higher in the Japanese ratings are reluctant to meet this upcoming hard-puncher. Nopparatnoy is 18-11, 7 KOs.

Undercard:

Yoshinobu Nakamura, 114, ran his ledger to 9-1-2, 6 KOs as he had Korean Jangbok Kim, KBC #3 fly, 113 3/4, time and again to pound out a nearly shutout decision (100-89, 99-93 and 98-92) over 10. Kim dropped to 6-10, 3 KOs.
