WBC #11 SUICO FLATTENS THAI CHAMP

SUICO March 3, 2001

TOKYO, JAPAN-Unbeaten Filipino sensation Randy Suico(right photo), 130.25, ran his unblemished mark to 13-0, 11 KOs when he flattened Thai feather champ Sangsi Poh Chaiwatana, 130.25, with a single left hook at 1:07 of the third round at the Korakuen Hall.

The taller Suico, 21, outjabbed and outpunched the southpaw Thai champ from the outset, and exploded a wicked looping left hook that sent him to dreamland. The flattened pancake, 9-3, 5 KOs, stayed prone on the canvas for minutes.

Suico, ranked #15 by the WBA, will defend his national 130-pound title in Cebu, his hometurf, along with ex-WBA minimum champ Joma Gamboa's tune-up bout, on May 12. He will stay busy to be more experienced through a tight schedule.

WBC #14 super-bantam Manabu Fukushima, 124, swept almost all rounds with his aggressiveness and dropped Indonesian super-bantam champ Virgo Warouw, 123.5, with a vicious right in the closing seconds of the last round en route to a lopsided decision over 10.

Fukushima, ex-Japanese champ, bettered his mark to 20-3-1, 14 KOs. Warou, who occasionally retaliated with sporadic shots, dropped to 14-3-2, 7 KOs.
