EX-WBA CHAMP LAKVA SIM ONESIDEDLY BEATS OPBF CHAMP SUNGHO YUH

March 19, 2001

SEOUL, KOREA-Ex-WBA super-feather champ Lakva Sim, Mongolian hard-puncher, proved too strong and powerful in pounding out a lopsided decision over WBC #9 ranked OPBF lightweight ruler Sungho Yuh, Korea, in a non-title 10 rounder at Changchung Gymnasium, Seoul.

Sim, WBA #2 ranked 130-pounder, swept all rounds with his aggressive rallies and dropped the previously unbeaten Korean with a vicious straight right in the 3rd.

The WBA had mandated Sim to fight some world-rated opponent to prove his qualification to be the mandatory contender against the current WBA champ Joel Casamayor, who is already scheduled to defend his title on May 5 and face the WBO kingpin Acelino Freitas in a unification bout on July 14.

Sim seized the WBA super-feather belt by demolishing Takanori Hatakeyama in 6 rounds in Tokyo in June, 1999, and lost it to Jongkwon Baek on a very highly controversial decision in Pusan, Korea, in October of that year. The muscular Mongolian Sim is still regarded as the strongest 130-pounder in Asia.
