WBC #4 MACA KEEPS OPBF BANTAM TITLE BY DROPPING ARINAGA FOUR TIMES EN ROUTE TO LOPSIDED DECISION

April 20, 2001

FUKUOKA, JAPAN-WBC #4 ranked Filipino veteran Jess Maca, 117 1/2, proved too ringwise and pugnacious for upcoming southpaw Masayuki Arinaga, 118, dropping him four times en route to a very lopsided decision over 12.

Maca, 39-16-4, 17 KOs, caught the less experienced foe and sent him to the deck in the first, second, seventh and 10th sessions. Arinaga, 12-2, 7 KOs, had decked an upset KO win over ex-WBA junior fly champ Keiji Yamaguchi in his previous bout in Tokyo last October, but his ambitious crack against the crafty Maca resulted in a onesided affair.

Scored: double 120-104 and 118-110, all for Maca.

Undercard:

Hard-hitting lightie Keita Manabe, 134 3/4, ran his unblemished mark to 9-0, as many KOs when he survived a first round visit to the canvas and finished Filipino Rex Marsan, 134 1/2, at 1:35 of the second round in a scheduled 10.

Hiroki Ozeki, 144 3/4, outpointed Indonesian Bandley Agasi, 144 1/4, over 10.

Promoter: Hiroyuki Seki Promotions.
