WBA #2 LIGHT-FLY HONDA FLATTENS THAILANDER

OSAKA, JAPAN-WBA #2 light-fly Hidenobu Honda, 115, flattened Thailander Chainarong Eminent, 115, with a single southpaw left hook at 0:46 into the second round in a scheduled 10.@The Thai loser stayed prone on the canvas for some 10 minutes.

The lefty Honda, who has been waiting for his turn to fight for the WBA throne for years, served as a sparring partner for Marco Antonio Barrera in his preparation for a showdown with Naseem Hamed.

Honda, a lanky southpaw, bettered his mark to 23-1, 12 KOs.

Undercard:

Formerly rated by the WBC, southpaw Koji Fujiwara, 115, was held to a majority draw by Seiji Tanaka, 115, over 8.

OPBF MINIMUM CHAMP NAKAJIMA DECKS FINE KO WIN IN NON-TITLE GO

NAKAJIMA April 24, 2001

TOKYO, JAPAN-Fast-moving WBC #4 ranked minimum Hiroshi Nakajima(right photo), 108, floored Wanchai Sriprachan, 108, three times and decked a fine KO victory at 2:44 of the third session. Nakajima's OPBF title was not at stake.

Nakajima, 16-2, 3 KOs, is gunning for a shot at either the WBC champ Jose Antonio Aguirre or the WBA champ Chana Porpaoin while keeping the regional 105-pound throne. Wanchai dipped to 5-4, 1 KO.

Undercard:

Unranked Shuichi Kobayashi, 149 1/4, scored an upset TKO win over JBC #6 super-welter contender Tomohiro Ide, 150, at 1:45 of the third round in a scheduled 8.

Ide, managed by ex-world junior middle champ Koichi Wajima, could not land his vaunted power punches only to absorb much punishment by the determined opponent, 8-2, 3 KOs. Ide fell to 7-10-2, 6 KOs.

Jun Toriumi, 120 1/4, Nakajimafs stablemate, gained a shutout verdict over Takuya Kusakabe, 120 1/4, over 8.

The winner is 12-2-1, 2 KOs. The loser, handled by ex-world fly champ Susumu Hanagata, impaired to 6-4, 4 KOs.
