WBC #3 SUPER-FEATHER NAGASHIMA SHUTOUTS SHINOZAKI

NAGASHIMA May 5, 2000

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC #3 ranked super-feather Kengo Nagashima(right photo), 130, returned to the ring warfare after recovering from an injury, and pounded out a shutout decision over durable and game Tetsuya Shinozaki(left photo), 130, over 10.

SHINOZAKI Scored: 100-95, 100-94 and 99-94, all for Nagashima, 19-1-1, 11 KOs. Shinozaki, who had failed to win the national 130-pound title from Koji Arisawa, fell to 13-8-7, 6 KOs.

The slick-punching Nagashima took the leadoff from the start, piling up points with effective body shots. Shinozaki fought back and scored some good punches to the southpaw in the 6th, but Nagashima retaliated with more accurate combinations. Though Nagashima suffered a gash over the left optic, it did not bother his constant attack to the game but slower opponent.

Undercard:

Fast-rising Shingo Sasaki, 114 1/2, JBC #2 super-fly, decked his tune-up go prior to his promised shot at the newly crowned Takuya Kiya, as he blasted out Thai #5 super-fly Pornchai Sitphraprom, 115, with a vicious right hook at the face at 1:04 of the opening session in a scheduled 10.

This victory raised his ledger to 14-2-1, 11 KOs. The Thai loser slipped to 17-10, 9 KOs.

Promoter: 18 Koga Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Sasaki vs. Pornchai semi-final).
