SAKAIDE, JAPAN-Shorter southpaw Seiji Takechi, OPBF interim super-welter champ, 153 3/4, dethroned peviously unbeaten full OPBF ruler Nobuhiro Ishida, 153 3/4, as he defeated the taller ex-amateur star by a hairline but unanimous decision over 12 heats.
Scored: referee Harada 115-114, judges Miyazaki and Uenaka 116-114 and 117-116 respectively, all in favor of the prefight underdog Takechi, 10-3-2, 2 KOs. Ishida, 6-1, 2 KOs, tasted his first setback, revealing his inferior experience.
Takechi moved in and out to nullify the much taller Ishidafs long range, whipping him to the face and breadbasket to frustrate him all the way. Ishida scored a solid right to shake up Takechi in the 5th, but the lefty regained his initiative to pile up points in later rounds.
Aware of being behind on points, Ishida desperately attacked his opponent in the 11th, but Takechi retaliated furiously in the final session.
