ISHIHARA HALTS KOREAN PARK IN 6

August 12, 2000

NAGOYA, JAPAN-Hard-hitting Japanese #5 super-fly southpaw Hideyasu Ishihara, 114 3/4, proved too powerful and pugnacious for Korean #2 super-fly Hongkeun Lee, 115, stopping him at 2:16 of the 6th round.

Ishihara, 7-2-1, 6 KOs, battered him from all angles to prompt the refereefs intervention. The Korean dipped to 5-9, 2 KOs. Ishihara had a bit too ambitious crack at the then Japanese champ Celes Kobayashi in his third pro fight only to be stopped in the 7th in 1999, though he beat national champ Nolito Suzuki Cabato on points in his pro debut. The bright ex-amateur star also failed in another venture in an encounter with ex-WBA 115-pound champ Jesus Kiki Rojas only to be finished in 7 heats in 2000. He is now coming back steadily.

Unbeaten JBC #1 super-light Yosuke Otsuka, 140, sent Thailander Chalaamdam Sithtradtrakarn, 139 1/2, to dreamland with a single right shot at 2:53 of the third session. Otsuka is waiting for a mandatory shot at the national 140-pound throne against Hiroyuki Maeda, who lately suffered a right hand fracture in his last defense against Kokichi Tanaka. Otsuka, former national Novice-king tourney winner, will have to wait for the champfs recovery. The Thailander slipped to 4-3-1, 2 KOs.

Upcoming OPBF #8 contender Masakazu Sugawara, 121 3/4, displayed a beautiful KO with a right uppercut by finishing Thailandfs Sann Sithnaruephondh, 119 1/4, at 2:23 of the second round. Sugawara, ex-national amateur high school champ, showed a fine form in outboxing the shorter opponent. He raised his mark to 12-2-3, 6 KOs. Sann fell to 13-7, 5 KOs.

Unbeaten super-fly prospect Shin Ogata, 114 1/2, ran his ledger to 9-0-1, 4 KOs as he disposed of Thailander Yodpetch Chuwatana, 114, at 2:47 of the 4th canto. The loser slipped to 9-7, 2 KOs.

Promoter: Matsuda Promotions.
