WBC #10 LIGHT FLY KANG BARELY KEEPS OPBF TITLE

August 13, 2000

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC #10 ranked Korean Pilkoo Kang, 108, barely kept his OPBF 108-pound title as he struggled to earn a controversial decision over Japanese lefty Nobuyuki Enomoto(right photo), 108, over 12 heats.

Scored: Jaesun Lee (Korea) 117-114 and Takeshi Shimakawa (Japan) 116-115, both for Kang (9-5, 5 KOs), and referee Ukrid Sarasas (Thailand) 116-115 for Enomoto (13-2-2, 2 KOs).

The Japanese southpaw piled up points with good countering rights comfortably in earlier rounds. He sustained a gash in the 4th, and it might hamper his fighting spirit in later rounds. Kang missed many shots but remained aggressive in the 8th through 10th.

Hitoshi Misako, Enomotofs manager/promoter, said afterwards that he would protest to the OPBF to demand a rematch. Enomoto, who showed such a good performance, deserves a rematch.

Japanfs #4 super-light Hironari Oshima, 140, sank with a single left to the belly of Thailander Konsuk Kiatchaion, 137, at 0:50 into the opening canto.

Konsuk paid no effort to stand up and fight after he hit the deck with a well-timed but light body shot. Oshima raised his ledger to 15-1, 11 KOs.

Promoter: Misako Promotions.
