ARISAWA STOPS THAILANDER KUMPHOON IN 5

October 4, 2001

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC 25th ranked ex-Japanese 130-pound champ Koji Arisawa, 132.25, withstood a furious opening attack of Thailander Khumphoon Eausampan, 131.25, and finally caught him with a flurry of punches en route to a fine TKO at 0:58 of the 5th round.

The younger of the Arisawa twins had kept his national belt on 6 occasions, but yielded it to Kinji Amano by an upset decision last March. His 6-month inactivity made him look less sharp than previously, Arisawa took back the initiative as the contest progressed, piling up points steadily.

The fatal session saw Arisawa explode a beautiful right counter and follow up to bring him to a standstill, when referee Ken Morita called a well-timed halt.

Promoter: Soka Arisawa Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.
