KULAABDAENG AWARDED CONTROVERSIAL DECISION IN WBO ASIAN PACIFIC 118-POUND TITLE BOUT

February 07, 2002

BANGKOK, THAILAND-A dual WBO regional title bout took place, but a terribly controversial verdict was witnessed, our correspondent Ryuichi Kotani wrote.

Kulaabdaeng Kiatkuririn (20-4, 6 KOs), making his second defense, barely kept his WBO Asian-Pacific bantam title as Filipino challenger Rodel Orias continually took the initiative from the start and occasionally battered the champ to a standstill to obviously seem to be a unanimous winner, but a highly questionable split decision was amazingly rendered to the defending champ over 12.

Scored: double 115-113 for the champ, and 115-113 for Orias. Our correspondent tallied such a lopsided score as 120-108 for Orias. Kulaabdaeng is a notorious campaigner who had acquired the same belt despite hitting the deck twice last August.

In another title go, Numchai Ratanachaigym (12-2, 3 KOs; AKA Namchai Thaksine-San) kept his WBO Asian-Pacific 105-pound title by a unanimous decision over Filipino Jun Arlos over a dull 12.

Scored: 118-111, 116-112, and 118-111, all for Numchai.

Promoter: Ekarat Chaichotechuangfs Kiatkuririn Promotion.

BANGKOK-Ex-amateur champ Pramansuk Porsuwan ran his unbeaten mark to 3-0, 2 KOs as he acquired the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific super-fly title by finishing Filipino Julius Odocopra with a solid right following effective body shots in 8.

THANYABURI, PATUM THANI PROVINCE, THAILAND-WBA top ranked 130-pounder Sirimongkol Singmanassuk (31-1, 16 KOs) socred 7 consecutive KO wins when he disposed of Filipino top contender Rex Marzan in the third round supporting the WBC bantam title bout of Veeraphol Nakhonluang-Promotion keeping his belt by a lopsided nod over Sergio Perez. Sirimongkol was formerly the WBC 118-pound champ who jumped up to the super-feather category after forfeiting his throne to Joichiro Tatsuyoshi in 1997. He seems more comfortable and stronger at this weight.

In another supporting event, WBC international 122-pound champ Napapol Kiatisakchokechai (14-0, 10 KOs) engaged in a non-title bout and outpointed Filipino Orly Padillo over 10.
