WBC #14 FEATHER YANAGIDA STRUGGLES TO WIN OVER THAILANDER HINO

FUKUOKA, JAPAN-WBC #14 feather Panther Yanagida (19-3, 15 KOs), 129.5(right photo), weathered a storm in the third, and struggled to earn a unanimous but hard-fought decision over Thai #5 Hino Kiatdhohbohubol (17-2-5, 7 KOs), 129.25, over 10.

Hino landed a vicious right to the chin, almost toppling the ex-OPBF ruler who barely lasted the round by desperately fighting back. In the 9th, Hino caught him with another solid right, but Yanagida retaliated with furious combinations.

Scored: 98-92, 99-94 and 98-93, all for Yanagida who renouced his OPBF 126-pound title with Takashi Koshimoto winning the vacant throne by beating Indonesian Dony Suratin on points last September.

Undercard:

Koji Otsuka (9-8-2, 7 KOs), 139(left photo), pounded out a shutout decision over Thailander Chaiyan Chuwatana (4-2, 1 KO), 140, over 10.

ONO WHIPS TODA

TOKYO, JAPAN-Formerly world-rated Japanese top light contender Junichi Ono (22-4-2, 9 KOs), 137.75, effectively landed many body shots to Japanese #6 welter Kenji Toda (13-6-3, 7 KOs), 136.5, winning a unanimous decision over 10.

Ono, ex-national 140-pound champ, moved down to the 135-pound category after forfeiting his belt to Hiroyuki Maeda, and twice failed to win the vacant national lightweight belt, losing to Tadashi Yuba in 2000 and to Norio Kimura last year.
