MANILA, PHILIPPINES-WBC #2 light-fly Juanito Rubillar, 108, barely kept his WBC international 108-pound belt as he fought to a technical draw with ex-WBA minimum champ and currently WBA #4 Joma Gamboa, 108, due to the latterfs bad bleeding at 2:29 of the third round at Elorde Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines.
Gamboa, in his first appearance since he failed to regain the WBA 105-pound belt from Keitaro Hoshino on points last January, kept pressing the action, while Rubillar, a shorter southpaw, kept riding a bicycle and circling to avoid mixing up with the hard-punching Gamboa.
The third saw a head-collision happen with Gamboa sustaining a very nasty gash and bleeding so profusely that the ref Bruce McTavish promptly stopped the proceedings to declare a technical draw.
Archel Villamor, 112, acquired the PABA fly belt by eking out a hairline but unanimous decision (116-114 twice, and 115-113) over Jerry Pahayahay, 110, over 12.
WBC #7 fly Randy Mangbat, 114, sank Ramie Laput, 114, with a single body shot at 2:30 of the opening canto.
WBC #2 105-pounder Ernesto Rubillar, 107, was also a KO winner over Flash Villacura, 108, in the first round.
