WBC #5 HAMDEN KEEPS OPBF 154-POUND BELT

June 20, 2002

OSAKA, JAPAN-Unbeaten WBC #5 ranked Australian Nader Hamden (28-0, 14 KOs), 153.75, proved a better jabber and kept his OPBF 154-pound title by a unanimous decision over taller ex-OPBF champ Nobuhiro Ishida (7-3-1, 3 KOs), 153.75, over 12 fast rounds in Osaka, Japan.

Scored: David Chung (Korea) 117-113, Takeo Harada (Japan) 117-114, and Don Marks (Australia) 119-110.

Ishida made a good start, but Hamden, making his first defense, began to outjab the Japanese jabber and controlled the fight by a close margin in the third through 10th. Ishida, in the 11th, made a desperate attack to win a point. But the last session saw Hamden have him at bay with busier combinations to the fading challenger. It was a good technical bout of the stylish jabbers.

Undercard:

Fast-rising hard-hitter Daigoro Yamamoto (4-1, 4 KOs), 141.5, dropped Thai #1 ranked lightweight Singsiam Eausampan (4-2, 1 KO), 139.5, at 1:05 of the 4th round.

Promoter: Hideo Kanazawafs Kanazawa Promotions.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi.
