WBC ALLOWS GATORADE TO BE USED DURING TITLE BOUTS

August 26, 2002

TOKYO, JAPAN-Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC supervisor and the son of the WBC president Jose Sulaiman, has announced in Tokyo, Japan, that the use of such sports drink as Gatorade etc. can be used during a WBC world title bout in order to avoid dehydration of the boxers participating in a 12-round fight. Previously only water could be permitted for boxers to use and drink, which was the traditional regulation in the boxing world.

This epoch-making decision was already taken into practice since the WBC interim super-feather title bout of Oscar Larios and Manabu Fukushima this Saturday, and will be applied to all upcoming WBC title bouts in the world including todayfs WBC 115-pound title of Masamori Tokuyama and Erik Lopez in Saitama, Japan.
