SHIZUOKA, JAPAN-WBA #2 ranked minimum Joma Gamboa (32-7-2, 22 KOs), 105, Philippines, displayed devastating power punching in dropping Japanese local prospect Daisuke Iida (15-5-1, 7 KOs), 104.5, in the 6th and 9th to win a lopsided decision (99-93 twice and 97-93) over 10 in Shizuoka, Japan.

Gamboa, ex-WBA champ, proved too strong and ringwise for Iida who had once held ex-WBA ruler Yutaka Niida to a controversial draw in May 2001. The Filipino penetrated Iidafs guard with stinging lefts all the way.

Undercard:

Japanese #6 ranked bantam Hiroaki Murakoshi (20-6-2, 15 KOs), 118, defeated Filipino Jaime Acerda (6-6, 3 KOs), 117.5, by a unanimous nod over 10.

TOKYO, JAPAN-Ex-Japanese national feather champ Eugenio Yuji Gomez (17-2, 16 KOs), 126, a Puerto Rican residing in Japan, put on a give-and-take brawl with a durable Thailander Jakri Sakmuankraeng (7-6-2, 2 KOs), 124, at 2:22 of the 6th round in Tokyo.

Japanese #5 ranked Gomezfs wicked left to the belly sank him in agony, when the ref promptly called a halt without bothering to count.

KOREAN HWANG UPSETS MORISHITA

OSAKA, JAPAN-Korean welter prospect Kyosung Hwang (8-0, 5 KOs), 152.75, scored an upset KO over Japanese top ranked super-welter Hideki Morishita (9-2, 7KOs), 156.5, with a single right to the button at 0:39 of the second round in Osaka.

Japanese #2 welter Toshiyuki Inazawa (8-1-1, 4 KOs), was held to a majority draw by #8 ranked middle Eiji Nakmura (6-4-5, 1 KO) over 10.
