December 18, 2002

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBA #3 and WBC #6 ranked 115-pounder Katsushige Kawashima (23-2, 16 KOs), 117, proved too strong for an unknown Thailander Sakmongkol Singmanasaak (16-12, 4 KOs), 118, as he put on the pressure on the victim from the outset, landed a solid right to the temple and flattened him at 2:26 of the second round in Tokyo, Japan. The loser was carried out of the ring by a stretcher, but was OK afterward.

Kawashima, Japanese champ handled by ex-WBA & WBC 105-pound champ Hideyuki Ohashi, is gunning for a shot at the winner of the WBC super-fly title bout between Masamori Tokuyama and Gerry Penalosa on December 20.
