TOKYO, JAPAN-Hard-punching lefty Satoshi Kogumazaka, 104.75, captured the Japanese national 105-pound belt as he battered WBC #9 ranked defending champ Hiroyuki Abe, 104.75, with solid right hooks to the face and heavy left uppercuts to the belly to pound out a unanimous decision over 10 in Tokyp.
The WBC #19 Kogumazaka, despite his 11-month hiatus due to a left-hand fracture, dropped the champ with a looping southpaw right hook in the second, and swept the 6th through 8th sessions with his effective body shots. Scored: 98-94 twice and 99-94, all for the taller victor, 17-5-3, 9 KOs. Abe, who opened three lacerations on the new champfs eyebrows, fell to 19-5-2, 3 KOs.
Unbeaten WBC #5 ranked 105-pounder Eagle Okuda (5-0, 3 KOs), an import from Thailand residing here with a Japanese wife, 105.75, whipped OPBF #7 Fabio Marfa (13-7-3, 7 KOs), a durable Filipino, 106, and finally retired him on the stool after the 8th. Eagle had lopsidedly defeated highly ranked Noel Tunacao on points to enter the top ten.
