SUICO KEEPS OPBF 130-POUND TITLE BY THIRD ROUND KO OF HUTAGALUNG

March 29, 2003

LAPU-LAPU CITY, CEBU, PHILIPPINES-Unbeaten WBC #3 ranked hard-puncher Randy Suico, 129.75, kept his OPBF 130-pound belt and extended his unblemished mark to 19-0, 17 KOs as he responded to a brutal pier six brawl of Indonesian champ Timbul Hutagalung (15-4-5, 3 KOs), 129.5, and finally sunk him with a single right for the count at 2:05 of the fourth round at Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines this Saturday.

Hutagalung displayed a do-or-die attack from the outset, and Suico forgot his fight plan to swap roundhouse punches toe-to-toe in the center of the ring in the first two rounds. Suico, a taller puncher, began to outjab his challenger to find his range in the third, when he exploded a devastating right to the shorter Indonesianfs face. He sunk on the seat of trunks to be counted out by referee Bruce McTavish, being too dazed to pull himself up for some minutes. But Suico, the best prospect of the Philippines, may be castigated for his lack of finesse this night despite the crowd being greatly pleased with the action-packed slugfest.

Undercard:

Unbeaten WBC #6 minimum contender Eriberto gIokah Gejon (15-0-1, 9 KOs) disposed of Roger Gadian in the second. The lanky boy sustained a bad gash over the left eyebrow in the first, but brought home the bacon with his britzkrieg in the next round.

Promoter: Rex Wakee Salud.

Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi (as for the Suico vs. Hutagalung title bout).
