TOKYO, JAPAN-Elongated Prosper Matsuura (22-3, 10 KOs), 115, acquired the vacant Japanese 115-pound belt as he kept peppering WBA #6 southpaw Masayuki Arinaga (15-3 8 KOs), 114.5, all night and had the referee intervene at 0:27 of the 7th in Tokyo, Japan.
Matsuura piled up points with powder-puff punches against the ill-balanced hard-puncher who just came forward to push his rival without hitting effective shots. Scored after the 6th: 60-53, 60-54 and 60-55, all for the lanky winner.
Formerly world-rated Olympian, ex-national 118-pound and 112-pound champ Setsuo Segawa (20-3, 10 KOs), 125.75, floored overmatched Thailander Anucha Sitgorson (7-7, 4 KOs), 122, twice and halted him at 1:22 of the second round.
Promoter: Ohashi and Kokusai Promotions.
