WBC #5 NAKAZATO DECKS COMEBACK WIN

June 29, 2003

OKINAWA, JAPAN-WBC #5 ranked 122-pounder Shigeru Nakazato (24-6, 18 KOs) (right photo), 123.75, appeared after his grueling performance against WBC champ Oscar Larios last April, and decked a comeback win over Thailander Petchngam Soh Voraphin (5-4), 123.25, by a unanimous decision (99-94, 100-94 and 97-94) on Sunday in Okinawa, Japan.

Nakazato, however, failed to impress the crowd as he seemed too eager and nervous to display a spectacular KO win before his hometown crowd, and only threw a punch at a time against the elusive and durable opponent. The Japanese left-hooker is gunning for another shot at either of the WBA or the WBC super-bantam belts.
