YAMANAKA FINISHES THAI CHAMP PHISESH

August 18, 2003

TOKYO, JAPAN-Once-beaten Daisuke Yamanaka (10-1, 7 KOs), 119.25, dropped Thai fly champ Phisesh Voh Suraphol (15-10, 2 KOs), 119.5, twice and halted him at 2:34 of the fourth round on Monday night in Tokyo, Japan.

Their difference of physique was too big for the Thai 112-pounder Phisesh, who was easily overpowered by the much taller and physically stronger Japanese. Phisesh, who had shown such a game performance against the OPBF super-fly champ Hideyasu Ishihara in his previous bout in Nagoya, was just a victim of the size.

Undercard:

Unbeaten Japanese #4 ranked light-fly, southpaw Munetsugu Kayo (8-0, 3 KOs), 110.25, earned a unanimous nod over Thailander Fahkanon Sindongthai (4-2, 1 KO), 108.25, over a dull eight. Japanese #6 welter Takejiro Kato (12-3-3, 8 KOs), 146.5, pulled himself up from a third-round visit to the deck and swept almost all other rounds to take a unanimous nod (all 78-74) over Soji Kato (9-8-2, 1 KO), 145.75, over eight. In an encounter of Katofs, Takejiro proved too busy and pugnacious for Soji throughout the contest.

Promoter: Shirai Gushiken Promotions.
