TOKYO, JAPAN-All Japanese sports papers featured a front-page article that Mike Tyson might participate in a K-1 competition within this year. The K-1, a mixture of such martial arts as karate, kick boxing and kungfu, has produced such a big sensation here in Japan for years that an demonstrative event took place for the third time at the Bellagio ball room in Las Vegas last Friday. Iron Mike, invited by the K-1 group, watched the competitions at the ringside, and responded to the agitation of ex-NFL player and now K-1 star Bob Sapp from the ring. Tyson climbed up to the ring, smilingly played a scuffle with him and said on the microphone, gSign the contract, big boy.h It stirred up so great interests of Japanese K-1 fans here that our papers greatly reported a near-future possible confrontation of Tyson vs. Sapp everyday. We know anything can happen to Mike, but is he really serious?
