September 26, 2003

ANTIPOLO, PHILIPPINES-Ex-WBC flyweight champ Malcolm Tunacao, a fast-handed southpaw, acquired the vacant WBC international 115-pound belt as he exploded a smashing shot at the chin of Indonesian champ Ringgo Jaguar at the same time of the bell to end the fifth round to legally finish him. The WBC #4 ranked Filipino had gained the flyweight belt by stopping Medgoen Toyota-Thailand in seven heats in 2000, but forfeited it to the current WBC champ Pongsaklek Singwangcha by a first-round stoppage in the next year.

Filipino newcomer Araman De La Cruz captured the WBC international 112-pound belt by a split decision (114-111, 114-113 and 111-114) over defending champ and compatriot Ernesto Rubillara over twelve.

This report was presented by Mauro Betti of the WBC international championship committee in Italy.
