TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC #6, WBA #14 ranked Japanese 105-pound champ Satoshi Kogumazaka (19-5-3, 9 KOs), 104.75, kept his national belt by posting a shutout decision (100-93 twice and 100-91) over WBC #22 ex-champ Makoto Suzuki (13-8-2, 8 KOs), 104.75, over ten rounds on Monday (October 13) night in Tokyo, Japan. Suzuki had renounced the belt due to his long medical cure of his whiplash injury. Though Suzuki kept stalking the champ, Kogumazaka, a taller southpaw, scored with right jabs and solid countering lefts to sweep nearly all rounds.
Fast-rising unbeaten Japanese #8 fly Kuniyuki Aizawa (4-0-1, 4 KOs), 115, fought to a split draw (97-96, 97-97 and 96-99) with ex-world rated lefty Masayuki Arinaga (15-3-1, 8 KOs), 115, over ten lousy rounds. They so hardly exchanged punches that the third man had to often give them a warning to throw more punches, but in vain. Aizawa made good use of footwork, not his expected hard punches, while the more aggressive Arinaga kept missing the target.
