NAGOYA, JAPAN-Unbeaten OPBF #5 ranked Japanese top 115-pound contender Shin Ogata (15-0-2, 6 KOs), 116.5, scored an important victory over OPBF #2 ranked Korean champ Huyjong Kim (4-2, 1 KO), an ex-amateur speedster, 116.75, winning a close but unanimous decision (98-97, 97-96 and 97-95) over ten heats on Sunday evening in Nagoya, Japan.
Kim kept peppering Ogata to befuddle him in the first half, but the more powerful Ogata had the upper hand in the second half. Ogata is gunning for the OPBF throne now held by compatriot Eiji Kojima.
WBC #6 ranked ex-OPBF superfly champ Hideyasu Ishihara (14-2-1, 10 KOs), 116.75, survived a surprising visit to the deck in the seventh, but swept almost all other rounds to post a unanimous decision (97-92, 98-94 and 97-94) over Thai #8 superfly Detchsiam Sishphohdam (7-9, 3 KOs), 116.25, over ten. The Thailander was much more stronger than his credentials indicated, and tenaciously refused to go down though the Japanese lefty had him at bay with a barrage of punches in the third and fourth. Ishihara was just careless in the seventh, taking a roundhouse shot of the fading opponent.
WBC #19 ranked 122-pounder Masakazu Sugawara (18-2-4, 11 KOs), 121.75, a lanky speedster, was awarded a TKO win over Tetsuya Morishita (9-15-5, 2 KOs), 122, at 1:51 of the eighth round. It was not Sugawarafs good performance, as he hit the deck with the underdogfs wild shot and won on a TKO because of the loserfs nasty laceration caused by his legal shots.
Shoji Kawase (9-2-1, 5 KOs), 134.5, dropped Thai #7 light Kongsuk Kiatchaiyong (6-11, 6 KOs), 135, and scored an automatic stoppage at 1:49 into the opening session.
Ryuji Amano (7-13-3, 2 KOs), 118, finally caught Thailander Taothong Sishsobha (5-13, 2 KOs), 118, at 1:31 of the fifth round. Anyway, it was a competitive fight despite their inferior marks.
