AGUIRRE DEFENDS IN JAPAN

October 26, 2003

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC 105-pound champ Jose Antonio Aguirre (30-1-1, 19 KOs), a Mexican hard-puncher, will put his belt on the line against #3 ranked Eagle Akakura (10-0, 5 KOs), a Japan-based Thailander, at the Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan, on January 10.

Eagle, 24, came to Japan, having been scouted by Japanese trainer Kikuji Okuda in 2001, and fought here under the name of Eagle Okuda in the beginning of his campaign in Tokyo. He recently changed his nom-de-guerre to Eagle Akakura. Having scored a record of 4-0, 2 KOs in Thailand, Eagle compiled an unbeaten mark, 6-0, 3 KOs, in Japan. He entered the WBC top ten by defeating then highly rated Filipino Noel Tunacao by a lopsided decision in August of the previous year. The 28-year-old Mexican Aguirre, making his 8th defense, previously fought here twice, dismantling top contender Wolf Tokimitsu in three in November 2001 and demolished ex-WBA ruler Keitaro Hoshino in the 12th and final session this June. We look forward to seeing the fast-rising prospect Eaglefs ambitious crack at the formidable champ Aguirre.
