OHSHIMA DRAWS WITH FURUKAWA

November 10, 2003

TOKYO, JAPAN-Highly expected Hironari Ohshima (19-4-1, 13 KOs), 140, was surprisingly held to a split draw (99-96 for him, 96-97 and 96-96) by unheralded Kazuhiro Furukawa (8-6-1, 2 KOs), 140, over give-and-take ten heats on Monday night in Tokyo, Japan.

Ohshima previously failed to win the national light belt from Rick Yoshimura and the OPBF 140-pound title from Masakazu Satake, but still remained a prospect with his good height and long reach. But he stupidly forgot to use his left hand only to mix it up with the game and gutsy rival in the close quarter, and struggled to earn a drawn verdict.

Undercard:

Kazuya Sagae (5-2-1, 3 KOs), 126, also fought to a majority draw with Kentaro Asano (5-3-3), 125.5, over six. Four bouts ended in a draw out of eleven fights this day.

Promoter: Cheyenne Yamamoto Promotions.
