EX-OPBF MIDDLE CHAMP HOZUMI SINKS MARBUN

TOKYO, JAPAN-Ex-OPBF middleweight champ Naotaka Hozumi (23-3-1, 20 KOs), 159.5, displayed his wicked left hook to the side of the belly, and dropped Indonesian Elvin Marbun (14-5-2, 6 KOs), 157, in agony for the count at 1:48 of the fifth round on Tuesday night in Tokyo, Japan.

Hozumi had an ambitious crack at the WBA title only to be stopped in ten lopsided rounds in Tokyo last October. The 28-year-old Japanese will have a crack at the Japanese national belt against Yoshihiro Araki early next year.

Undercard:

Fast and sharp, Japanese #9 ranked minimum Junichiro Kaneda (8-1, 5 KOs), 104.5, produced a stunning upset by scoring a clearcut knockout over top ranked Hiroshi Kasamatsu (10-5-4, 1 KO), 104.75, with a smashing left-right combo at 1:06 of the third round in a scheduled eight. Kaneda, piloted by ex-WBA 108-pound champ Yoko Gushiken, displayed his superior speed and crisp punching that won the praise of the crowd.

Unbeaten Japanese #10 ranked super-bantam Masaki Miya (11-0, 7 KOs), 122, scored a fine stoppage over Yugo Tsuboi (5-7-5, no KO), 122, at 1:29 of the fifth round in a scheduled eight.

Japanese #6 middle Masao Ayusawa (11-5, 11 KOs), 158.75, floored Kintaro Okadayama (7-5, 2 KOs), 160, in the seventh and eighth and finally halted him at 2:45 of the eighth and final session.

TOYOSHIMA STOPS KANEKO

TOKYO, JAPAN-Unranked southpaw Koji Toyoshima (14-8-1, 7 KOs), 130, registered an upset one-punch KO over Japanese #9 ranked 130-pounder Daigo Kaneko (9-3-3, 4 KOs), 130, at 2:12 of the fifth round in a scheduled eight.

Shigeyuki Emura (13-4-1, 2 KOs), 126, finished Thailander Sinubon Sithjapoc (8-5-1), 126, at 1:52 of the second round. Shinichiro Yamaguchi (10-3-1, 7 KOs), 118, disposed of Norimasa Kozakai (6-2, 2 KOs), 118, at 2:10 of the first session. Kenji Saegusa (10-2-1, 5 KOs), 115, looked very promising in utilizing his height, speed and power en route to a unanimous decision over Keisuke Sasakai (7-6-2, 2 KOs), 114.5, over eight. Rikiya Fukuhara (10-1-1, 7 KOs), 122, outscored Thailander Konsurin Sithsui (7-2, 1 KO), 119.75, over eight.
