TOKYO, JAPAN-Unranked Takanori Kariya (17-2, 5 KOs), put on a tricky performance and scored an upset unanimous decision (97-95, 98-95 and 99-95) over Japanese #4 ranked lightweight Yoshinari Hayamizu (16-4-2, 3 KOs), 134.25, over ten on Friday night in Tokyo, Japan. It was a good fight of the speedsters. Kariya was clearly in command in the first two rounds, but Hayamizu retaliated to dominate the third through seventh sessions by a small margin, which the judges didnft evaluate well. Kariya landed a big right in the eighth, and they shared the last two rounds.
Busy-punching Taro Fumoto (14-3, 3 KOs), 126, defeated persistent body puncher Takayuki Shimizu (9-2-1, 1 KO), 126, by a unanimous nod (80-73, 78-76 and 78-77) over eight. Shimizu kept landing a solid body shot at a time, while Fumoto battered him with faster combinations to the face and belly.
