TOKYO, JAPAN-Mexican hard-puncher Jose Antonio Aguirre (30-1-1, 19 KOs) will put his WBC 105-pound belt against unbeaten Japan-based Thailander Eagle Akakura (11-0, 6 KO) tomorrow (Saturday) at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Both tipped the beam at the class limit at the official weigh-in held at the Hall. It will be Aguirre's eighth defense since he dethroned Wandee Chor Charoen on points in Thailand in February 2002.
The officials are as follows: referee Laurence Cole; judges Lou Filippo, Chuck Hassett and Hubert Minn (all from the US). The WBC supervisor is the OPBF president Frank Quill (Australia).
WBC #9 ranked Nobuhito Honmo (22-4-2, 5 KOs) will defend his Japanese national 130-pound title against ex-champ Koji Arisawa (30-2-2, 22 KOs) in a highly anticipated encounter in the semi-final.
