WBA #5 KAWASHIMA SINKS DENT

January 15, 2004

YOKOHAMA, JAPAN-WBA #5 ranked 115-pounder Katsushige Kawashima (25-3, 17 KOs), 118, made a short work of unranked Thailander Dent Sishsobha (8-6, 2 KOs), 118, dropping him three times en route to an automatic stoppage at 1:23 of the second round on Thursday night in Yokohama, Japan.

Kawashima, a hard-punching peek-a-boo stylist, scored a couple of victories after his unsuccessful crack at the WBC superfly belt against Masamori Tokuyama last June. He is gunning for another shot against Tokuyama, who lately registered his eighth defense by beating top ranked Dimitri Kirilov in Osaka on January 3.

Japanese 140-pound champ Shingo Eguchi (16-1, 12 KOs), 141.25, blasted out Thailander Purim Tontiu (8-5-1, 1 KO), 138.25, at 3:05 of the opening session in a scheduled ten. His vicious body shot was a haymaker.

Undercard:

Japanese #4 ranked superfly Masayuki Arinaga (16-3-1, 9 KOs), 114.75, earned a unanimous nod (78-74, 79-74 and 80-73) over Ryo Yamakawa (8-10-1, 2 KOs), 115, over eight.

Yuya Morimoto (8-7, 4 KOs), 119.25, defeated Takuya Kusakabe (8-7, 4 KOs), 119.25, by a unanimous decision (77-76 twice and 78-75) over eight.

Haruki Tsuchiya (11-7-1, 5 KOs), 125.75, finished Thailander Tongdaen Sithtakanee, 126, at 2:21 of the fifth session in the first eight.
