WBC #6 KOGUMAZAKA BEATS #12 MATSUMOTO

February 9, 2004

TOKYO, JAPAN-Rough-punching southpaw, WBC #6 ranked Satoshi Kogumazaka (20-5-3, 9 KOs), 104.5, kept his Japanese national belt as he landed plenty of southpaw right hooks and uppercuts to WBC #12 Hiroshi Matsumoto (15-4-3, 7 KOs), 105, and pounded out a shutout decision (100-91, 100-92 and 100-94) over ten heats on Monday night in Tokyo, Japan.

It was a rough-and-tumble affair of southpaws, as they slipped down together and repeated landing rabbit punches and throwing down the opponent. Kogumazaka, who often threw punches in the air, overpowered the by far shorter rival who came forward only to absorb the champfs counters.

Undercard:

Unbeaten ex-amateur star Kuniyuki Aizawa (5-0-1, 4 KOs), 115, dropped ex-Thai flyweight champ Panomdetch Au Yuthanakorn (31-15, 11 KOs), 115, with a coutering right in the fourth and won a shutout nod (100-88 twice and 100-89) over ten. Japanese #6 ranked 154-pounder Kazuhiko Hidaka (16-4, 12 KOs), a hard-punching lefty at 146.75, displayed a one-punch demolition of Thongdang Sor Voraphin (5-5, 2 KOs), 146.5, at 0:45 into the sixth round in a scheduled ten. It was a terrible mismatch, as the Thai loser was a legitimate 130-pounder, so Hidaka was by far taller, bigger and more powerful.

Promoter: Shin Nihon Kimura Promotions.
