SANTILLAN KEEPS OPBF WELTER BELT

OSAKA, JAPAN-WBC #9 ranked lefty Filipino Rev Santillan (21-1-1, 15 KOs), 145.75, kept his regained OPBF welter belt as he constantly maintained the pressure on game but defensive Japanese challenger Taisei Marumoto (15-5-1, 7 KOs), 147, to win a unanimous decision (118-112, 118-114 and 117-111) over twelve rounds on Saturday night in Osaka, Japan.

Santillan, who had regained his regional title by dethroning Hiroshi Watanabe last April, proved so aggressive throughout the contest that Marumoto was forced to defend himself with his high guard by displaying little retaliation but his resilience.
