OSAKA, JAPAN-Unbeaten ex-amateur prospect Akira Yamazaki (5-0-1, 2 KOs), 129.75, scored an important victory over OPBF #3 ranked Filipino feather champ Jeffrey Onate (32-16-7, 16 KOs), 128.25, by a unanimous decision (98-92, 99-91 and 97-93) over ten heats on Sunday in Osaka, Japan.
Yamazaki took the leadoff with busier combinations, piling up points steadily. Onate occasionally threw roundhouse blows to the breadbasket, but the local prospect outhustled the Filipino veteran with more accurate shots to the face. The eighth saw it interrupted three times as the ringside physician examined cuts of Onate at the left eyelid and Yamazaki at the left eyebrow and on the skull. They swapped hot blows toe-to-toe in the last two sessions.
