PARRA KEEPS WBA FLY BELT

September 9, 2004

SEOUL, KOREA-Unbeaten Venezuelan Lorezo Parra (24-0, 17 KOs) kept his WBA flyweight belt as he defeated ex-WBC 108-pound champ Yosam Choi (26-5, 15 KOs), a 32-year-old Korean veteran, by a unanimous decision (117-111, 116-112 and 116-113) on Thursday in Seoul, Korea.

Parra, 26, who had dethroned previously unbeaten Eric Morel in Puero Rico last December, made a good start, but Choi displayed a good retaliation in middle rounds. Parra, however, regained his initiative in later rounds to confirm his victory. For Parra, it was his second defense after he barely defended his throne by a hairline majority decision over Takefumi Sakata in Tokyo this June.
