SEOUL, KOREA-WBC featherweight champ Injin Chi (29-2-1, 18 KOs), Korea, will defend his belt against Australian Tommy Browne (17-2-1, 7 KOs), WBC youth champion, in Seoul, Korea, either on January 29 or 30. The exact fight date will be finally decided by Kusung Lee, the promoter of Poongsan Promotion, and MBC TV next week. The WBC already sanctioned this voluntary defense by the voting of the board of governors. Chi acquired the vacant WBC belt by finishing game and durable Michael Brodie in seven hard-fought rounds in Manchester, UK, last April. The Korean champ, 31, kept it once thereafter by annihilating Japanese Eiichi Sugama in ten grueling rounds in Seoul this July. Browne, 21, unbeaten in his last ten bouts, now holds the WBC youth championship as he acquired it by stopping Thailander Kosol Sor Voraphin in six rounds in Ingleburn, NSW, Australia, last March. Should Chi emerge victorious against Browne, he will be obliged to meet the winner of the WBC eliminator between #1 Rocky Juarez and #2 Humberto Soto, as decided in the last WBC convention in Phuket, Thailand.
