#1 TANAKA AND #2 KUBOTA FIGHTS TO TECHNICAL DRAW

March 10, 2005

TOKYO, JAPAN-In an elimination bout to decide the new Japanese lightweight champ following a relinquishment of ex-titlist Takahiro Shimada, top ranked Kokichi Tanaka (23-8-2, 11 KOs), 135, dropped #2 Kazuki Kubota (14-5-2, 3 KOs), 135, with a smashing one-two combo in the opening session, but Kubotafs nasty cut over the left eyebrow, caused by an accidental butt, made it a technical draw at 0:12 of the fourth session in a scheduled ten on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan. Kobota fought back hard to win the third with his busy body shots, so it was uncertain which would have been the victor had it gone on.

Undercard:

Koji Suzuki (6-1-2, 2 KOs), 134.5, scored a come-from-behind KO over Manabu Suzuki (6-6-2, 2 KOs), 134.5, at 2:19 of the eighth and final session.
