FUKUOKA, JAPAN-Unbeaten 115-pound prospect Daisuke Maruyama (18-0, 13 KOs), 115.5, dropped ex-Philippine flyweight champ Jerry Pahayahay (43-47-3, 15 KOs), 115, in the second and pounded out a unanimous decision (98-93 twice and 98-92) over ten heats on Monday in Fukuoka, Japan. The hard-hitting youngster caught the Filipino veteran with a vicious left hook and decked him on the seat of trunks in the third. So anxious to finish him as he was, Maruyama failed to do so, as Pahayahay continually refused to go down, showing his durability and resilience. Japanese #3 ranked Maruyama is gunning for a shot at the winner of the OPBF champ Waenpetch Chuwatana and Masayuki Arinaga who will collide in Yokohama on this coming March 26.

Undercard:

Ranger Iizuka (7-3-1), 140, fought to a majority draw (76-76, 77-77 and 77-75 for him) with Koji Ohtsuka (12-8-3, 8 KOs), 139, over eight.

WBA#14 HATAKEYAMA DEFEATS HANDA

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBA #14/WBC#19 ex-Japanese 108-pound champ Masato Hatakeyama, 107, sent Hiroyasu Matsuzaki, 109, on the deck in the tenth and final round and scored a unanimous nod (98-93 twice and 96-95) over ten rounds on Monday in Tokyo, Japan/ Having lost his national belt to unheralded Nobuaki Masuda by a debatable upset decision last September, Hatakeyama, a lanky boxer-puncher, had a tough time coping with the Japanese #4 ranked 105-pounder in his first appearance since.

Undercard:

Hiroyasu Matsuzaki, 129, finished Shingo Endo, 129.25, at 3:00 of the fourth session in a scheduled eight. Mikihito Setoh, 121.25, made short work of Kazuo Morikawa, 122, pulverizing him at 2:35 of the opening canto in a first eight.

The card was dedocated to the recent retirement of ex-WBA 122-pound champ Osamu Sato, who showed a two-round sparring with his stablemate, WBA #4 fly Takefumi Sakata who is gunning for a rematch with the WBA ruler Lorenzo Parra.

TATEBAYASHI, JAPAN-Unranked Masayuki Fujigake (15-3-2, 3 KOs), 114.75, was awarded a majority technical decision (58-57 twice and 58-58) over Japanese #6 ranked 115-pounder Atsushi Kato (8-3-1, 2 KOs), 114.5, because of the formerfs bad bleeding at 0:56 of the sixth session on Sunday in Tatebayashi, Japan. Fujigake, a southpaw local favorite, sustained a very nasty gash on the right side of the head from the second on, and it became worse as the contest progressed. The JBC physician finally advised the ref to stop the proceedings.

Undercard:

Takuya Oyama (6-5-1, 4 KOs) earned a unanimous nod (59-56 twice and 59-55) over Filipino top welter contender Cesar Dacilio (5-6-1, 2 KOs) over six.
