CEBU, PHILIPPINES-WBC #3 ranked Filipino Randy Suico (22-1, 19 KOs) will risk his OPBF 130-pound belt against Thai national champ Muangfahlek Kiatwichean (10-4, 7 KOs) tomorrow (Wednesday) in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines. Suico, making his fourth defense, and Muangfahlek both tipped the beam at the 130-pound class limit this afternoon. The Thailander is not only an international style champ but a Muay-thai (Thai traditional kick-boxing) champ in his country, boasting of his durability and hard-punching ability. Despite his seemingly mediocre credentials, Muangfahlek is a dangerous challenger as he dropped three controversial decisions in Japan and claimed his victories in those bouts. He floored future Japanese champ Dainoshin Kuma and KO artist Keita Manabe with his trade-mark overhand rights to his credit. Suico, who tasted his sole setback in losing a split decision to then WBC top ranked Mzonke Fana in a WBC eliminator in South Africa last May, is patiently waiting for his turn to fight in a quest for a world belt. He wishes to show his improvement before his partisan fans in Cebu.
On the undercard, WBA top ranked 105-pound contender Eriberto Gejon (20-0-1, 12 KOs) will take on ex-Thai national champ Namchai Taksin-isarn over ten rounds. Gejon, a lanky stylish boxer, moved up to the top rank by scoring a technical decision over Carlos Melo in a WBA KO Droga promotion in Venezuela in the previous year. Gejon is gunning for a mandatory shot at the WBA throne against Japanfs Yutaka Niida this fall. For Gejon, it will be an important tune-up go prior to his world title shot.
This show is presented by Cebuano impresario Rex Wakee Salud.
