INADA KEEPS OPBF LIGHT BELT

July 2, 2005

TOKYO, JAPAN-WBC#12/WBA#11 ranked OPBF lightweight champ Chikashi Inada (18-2, 13 KOs), 135, kept his regional belt by dispatching Korean ruler Seungwoo Park (11-1, 7 KOs), 135, at 2:39 of the eighth round on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. The elongated Inada kept oujabbing the awkward Korean before he turned loose and connected with solid left-right combinations to floor him. The Thai referee Anek Hongtongkam promptly declared a stoppage without bothering to count the flattened challenger. Scores after the seventh: Hongtongkam 69-64 and Takeshi Shimakawa (Japan) 69-65, both for Inada, and Byungki Kim (Korea) 67-66 for Park.

Undercard:

Unbeaten feather prospect Takahiro Ao (7-0, 5 KOs), 126, earned a unanimous nod (99-94, 98-93 and 98-95) over ex-rugby player Yoshinori Miyata (15-4-1, 10 KOs), 126, over ten. Lefty Akifumi Shimoda (10-0, 7 KOs), 122, impressively halted Shusaku Ino (8-3, 1 KO), 122, at the end of the fourth in a scheduled eight.
