MEXICAN DIAZ DEFEATS UEHARA

July 29, 2005

OSAKA, JAPAN-WBC #11 feather Gamaliel Diaz (23-5-2, 10 KOs), 125.25, Mexico, was awarded a majority but well-received technical decision (79-74 twice and 76-76) over lefty Japanese Makoto Uehara (11-6-3, 4 KOs), 125.25, at 0:38 of the eighth round in a scheduled ten rounder on Friday in Osaka, Japan. The taller Mexican decked his second triumph over, following his unanimous decision over Naoto Fujiwara in Okayama. Diaz took the leadoff by utilizing good jabs and left-right combinations from the outset. Uehara, who had once outhustled Filipino champ Jeffrey Onate on points, began fireworks from the fifth, when he unfortunately sustained a bad gash over the left eyebrow caused by an accidental butt. He was examined by the ringside physician in the fifth, sixth and eighth, and was finally declared unfit to go on. Apparently Diaz had been more effective in aggressively attacking the bloodied opponent.

Undercard:

Unbeaten Teppei Isomichi (10-0, 7 KOs), 139.5, earned a majority nod (77-75 twice and 76-76) over Tsuyoshi Takayama (9-5, 4 KOs), 140, over eight.

Shimada had Rollies double up with body shots in the first session, and it became a lopsided slaughter because of the Indonesianfs belly made of glass. OPBF #7 heavyweight Ryosuke Takahashi (14-4-1, 8 KOs), 202.25, was also awarded a TKO win over Australian Apa Nanai (reportedly 2-5, no KO), 266, at 0:10 into the sixth round of a scheduled ten, as Nanai disappointingly failed to answer the bell to start the sixth round.
